Helping Kids Lead with Kindness: A Special Anti-Bullying App Collection
Every October, we come together in support of National Bullying Prevention Month, a time for all of us to elevate youth voices and build safe, more welcoming spaces for all children – especially for children from communities like ourselves in the AANHPI diaspora.
At Act To Change, we are thrilled to partner with Google Play to highlight a special collection of Teacher Approved apps that help children build empathy, increase confidence, and adopt a mindset of inclusion and respect. These apps are not only fun – but they also encourage children to think more critically about how they treat others and how children see themselves.
Why This Collection Matters
Let’s be honest – we are surrounded by screens. Whether it be at school, gaming, or communicating with friends & family, kids are spending a good amount of time online. That’s why it’s so important to ensure the technology kids are using supports their growth to become kind, empathetic, and considerate humans. These apps were curated for that very reason.
Each app in this collection supports kids in:
Recognizing and managing big emotions
Learning to be more empathetic and inclusive
Feeling proud of who they are, including their cultural identity
These aren’t your typical mindless games; you’ll find some familiar names like PBS Kids, Sesame Street, and Toca Boca as well as some newer favorites – all selected because they emphasized emotional growth, creativity, and social connection.
Teaching Kids to Be Upstanders, Not Bystanders
At Act To Change, we frequently discuss the meaning of being an Upstander – someone that speaks up and helps others when witnessing or experiencing bullying or exclusion. These apps establish the building blocks to living out that courage: understanding, compassion, and self-worth. Through entertaining stories, interactive play, and identity-affirming experiences, this collection allows young people to understand who they are and learn how to treat others kinder.
Let’s Create Change – One App at a Time
We’ve always believed that change begins early and often from the everyday moments of playing a game, watching a show, or talking to one another. With the right tools, kids are able to grow into leaders who honor and celebrate differences and challenge hate.
For this National Anti-Bullying Month we hope families, caregivers, and educators will explore this collection and treat it as an entry way to talk with kids about kindness, identity, and community.
Because when we teach kids to lead with empathy, they become the ones who create a more inclusive future for all of us.
